Electronic Access Control Systems

The crime rate seems to on an instant rise all around the United States. As the crime rate continues to climb more and more people and businesses are looking for ways to protect their homes, businesses, self, and families. There are a number of different ways to do just that including security systems, firearms, and even self defense classes. People wanted to protect their homes and businesses will need to find a way to prevent intruders from entering their domain without permission. Electronic access control systems are capable of keeping unwanted intruders outside where they belong. Each system has its own set of features, benefits, and flaws.

The most common type of electronic access control system is those that can be accessed using an electronic keypad. The owner of the property will be given or will set the password for the security system. Whenever that person needs access to the room all they need to do is enter the password into the keypad and they will be granted access to the room. Anyone who knows the password is capable of gaining access to the room. Normally you would only give the password family members and those you trust. The password can be changed when needed.

Keypad control systems are normally equipped or connected to a security or alarm system. This is done to allow sounding of the alarm when needed. The owner and anyone who knows the password are usually capable of activating the alarm. When the alarm is activated, it when sound whenever someone tries to open the door without putting in the correct password. The alarm will also sound whenever someone inputs an incorrect password a specific number of times. Keypad access control systems are the most common because they are extremely cheap and are more available than other types.

The next most commonly type of electronic access control system is those that require a keycard to gain access. These devices are more common among businesses. They are extremely common with hotels and motels. When a guest signs in they are given a keycard that grants them access to their particular room and no other room. Each individual guest has their own keycard which gives them access to their own room. These types of systems are more expensive than keypad system which makes them more commonly use in businesses and not in residential environments.

Keycard access systems have a major number of major benefits which make them perfect among businesses. The keycard access system allows the business to distribute the keycards among their employees. They can limit certain keycards and allow them to only open certain doors. For instance, only level three keycards are only allowed to open level one, two, and three doors while level two keycards are only capable of opening level one and two doors. This gives businesses more precise control over access to certain rooms. This allows business owners to restrict access to more sensitive areas. This in returns provides an overall safer working environment.

The keycards are controlled completely by the business owner who is capable of reprogramming the cards when needed. This makes it very easy to make new cards whenever one employee quits and another one starts. This allows the owner to change security levels for each card within a matter or seconds. Card readers needed to be equipped on each and every door that needs to be protected. While these systems are more common with business they are still frequently installed in homes. The keycards can be a good alternative to keys since the keycard can slide right into your billfold.
