Access control system- your options
Access control system (ACS) can offer top notch security for
both private and commercial premises. An ACS is used for
preventing unauthorized entries into restricted areas.
Access control systems can also play the role of permission
granter- a smart one actually. An ACS can be programmed to
allow only authorized people to enter. When an unauthorized
person seeks permission to enter, you can or cannot grant
permission for entry.
An ACS can also record check-in and check-out time of company
personnel.
This way, buildings and personnel inside get better security
against trespassers or any unauthorized entries. Modern ACS can
contribute a lot to efficient employee management.
For both commercial and residential facilities, functional
versatilities are integral parts of Access Control Systems. An
access control system can be truly useful for facilities with
multiple entry points.
Access Control Systems can come on different hardware
platforms. Here are some common ones-
Control panels
Control panels are used with many access control systems. You
interact with numeral keys or buttons here. But modern systems
also have touch screens as interactive interfaces.
Such arrangements are directly tied up with the locking or
releasing system. If you know the right pin codes, all you have
to do is enter them and the lock will open after verification
of your entries.
Magstripe Readers
Like control panels, Magstripe Readers are also used
extensively with access control systems. Some manufacturers
have named them ‘Swipe Card readers’.
They are simple to use, yet technically efficient. In practical
applications, encoded cards are issued by some companies for
their employees.
These encoded cards are swiped through the door locking
mechanism for locking and unlocking. Modern technologies use
encoded cards as employee ID.
Proximity Readers
Long Range readers happen to be the closest counterparts of
proximity readers. But both of them are usable with standard
access control platforms.
This hardware has sensors to read encoded cards. This means
there is no swiping. Proximity Readers come with the
functionality of reading cards from distance up to 100mm.
Smartcard Readers
They can perform additional services with access control
systems. Their functionalities allow records keeping of
time-ins and also time-out of employees or personnel.
Smartcard readers can give you the convenience of integrating
with standard payroll handling plus management of parking
schemes. Nevertheless, they are used as well for catering and
vending operations.
Identification methods
For all access control systems, the basic goal is to track or
spot visitors as well as non-employees. Three methods are
usually applied-
a) Door bell- This system is designed to alerts you about
permission seekers, intruders or trespassers.
b) Audio intercom- This system lets your visitors speak with
security or reception.
c) Camera driven audio intercom- You see who’s at the gate and
you also get to talk to the person. Granting remote permissions
to enter is now at your disposal.
Access control systems are worthwhile when you want solid
security measures in hi-security facilities.
